- Deus Boundless Enthusiasm Bike Builder Off
---------------
Well its official, the 26th of October is the official date for the return of the Deus Boundless Enthusiasm Bike Build Off. Back in 2010 we experienced a gathering of local backyard craftsmen, whose goal it was the create the most with the least. What they created amazed and inspired the gathered crowd. This year the event is back and bigger then before. Now we have flags on four continents comes the opportunity for more builders to enter. The event will be held simultaneously around the globe with the winner from each country going on to contest the title of world champ (people's choice vote). So sharpen your pencils and dust off the tools, entry forms will be posted on a dedicated build off site in the next few weeks, in the meantime we suggest you acquaint yourself with the rules. -
1. Making the most with the least.
Entrants adhesion to this rule is paramount. In fact, it over powers all the other rules combined.
This is not a competition where you can blow your fellow builders out of the park by spending up big. You could even say by loading your bike full of expensive trickery you will probably prohibit your bike from being considered for entry.
This rule speaks of simplicity and harks back to the days when motorcycles were minimalist; carburettor, engine, exhaust, tubular frames & seat, with wheels and elegant handlebars.
Of course we are happy to entertain modern adaptations of these qualities but then again we are a postmodern company.
2. The entry must run.
(ie. Kick over or push button starts and idles).
Very easy to judge and an essential part of ensuring each entrant does not skip on one of the most fundamental elements of a motorcycle…it must have an engine that works!
No limit on engine size, cylinder configuration or fuel type used but generally should be controlled by a hand throttle but not necessarily having gears.
3. Must be ridable over several meters and stop under its own braking power.
(ie. Roll under own power and have foot or hand brake/s).
Following on from #2, but ensuring the engine has a legitimate connection with its wheels, the bike must roll using it’s own power with its owner straddled on top and stop before a given point.
4. Display a level of creativity in design and/or construction.
This encourages entrants to think about their design with a clean sheet and not simply reinterpret an old standard or even worse, plagiarize.
5. Display ingenuity in design and/or function.
Re-purposed, reapplied or rehashed, as long as there is a new twist points will be awarded.
