VW Beetle Engined Cafe Racer with R44 helicopter gearbox / Enrico Marais

"Seguo le orme di mio padre nella costruzione di motocicli unici. In passato ho modificato solo la vecchia moto, ma con questa CafeVW l'ho fatta da zero !.

L'idea è iniziata con una foto concettuale che ho visto su Internet e la caccia al motore è iniziata nel gennaio di quest'anno. Il 22 febbraio ho trovato un motore Beetle del 1972 su Gumtree per un affare. Il giorno successivo ho avuto la fortuna di incontrare alcuni motociclisti al McDonald's e ho fatto un accordo con un ragazzo per scambiare una giacca da moto con un telaio Honda CB750F degli anni '80 e cerchi a raggi CB750 degli anni '70.

Ho dovuto tagliare la maggior parte del telaio per ottenere il motore nella posizione migliore, quindi sembra a posto e costruire il mio telaio secondario del motore. Ho montato un ammortizzatore posteriore Honda CBR 600RR del 2006. 
Cambio ... beh niente marce, solo una trasmissione alla ruota da una scatola a 90 ° da un rotore di coda per elicotteri Robinson R44 e una frizione centrifuga che mi sono costruito . 
Il serbatoio proviene da una Kawasaki Z750FX del 1979, ha dovuto modificarlo un po 'per adattarsi al telaio Honda. Freno anteriore da una Honda NC30 e freno posteriore Ho dovuto costruire la mia configurazione in quanto non ho ottenuto il mozzo del freno con i cerchi. Il cablaggio non è stato divertente, ma l'ho fatto e funzionando come dovrebbe.

Il 24 agosto ho fatto il mio primo test drive e sono soddisfatto del mio lavoro, potrei iniziare a farlo dipingere. In questo momento ho quasi finito di riassemblare.  Tutto il lavoro è svolto da solo nel mio garage."

"I follow in the footsteps of my father in building one-off motorcycles. In the past I have only modified old bike, but with this VW build I did it from scratch.

The idea started with a concept photo I saw on the internet and the hunt for the engine started January of this year. On the 22^nd of Feb I found and 1972 Beetle motor on gumtree for a bargain. The next day I was lucky to meet some biker at McDonald’s and made a deal with a guy to trade a bike jacket for a 1980’s Honda CB750F frame and 1970’s CB750 spoke rims.

I had to cut away most of the frame to get the engine in the best position, so it looks okay and build my own engine sub frame. Mounted a 2006 Honda CBR 600RR rear shock. Gearbox…well no gears, only one drive to the wheel from a 90° box from a Robinson R44 helicopter tail rotor and a centrifugal clutch I built myself out of a cars drum brake and shoes. Tank is from a 1979 Kawasaki Z750FX, had to mod it a bit to fit over the Honda frame. Front brake from a Honda NC30 and back brake I had to build my own setup as I did not get the brake hub with the rims. All the rest of the bits and pieces I got all over as the build came along. Wiring was no fun, but I got it done and working like it should.

24^th of August I did my first test drive and wow it actually drove. Pleased with my work I could start to get it painted. At this moment I’m almost done reassembled.  All work is done by myself in my garage."
